Government to Support Distributed Water Systems - I-kan Offers End-to-End Solutions
Policy Background
The January 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake exposed vulnerabilities in centralized water systems, requiring extended recovery periods. In response, the government has decided to support the introduction of "distributed water systems" that don't require large-scale purification plants or long-distance piping.
Support Starting FY2026
- Installation costs for small-scale purification equipment eligible for subsidies
- Subsidy rate approximately 1/4 to 4/10 depending on project details and municipal financial capacity
- Similar initiatives planned for sewage treatment
